'Redd has always been an all time favorite! For twelve years I did a traditional C&W program called, 'Country Music Memories' on three different stations here in Tampa. I'm now 67 years old and have been a 'Pee Wee & Redd' fan since I was 14 years old when my dad brought home a 78 rpm recording of 'Tennessee Waltz.' I wish that I had had the pleasure of meeting them.
I feel that it was a great injustice when Pee Wee was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, while ignoring Redd's contribution because let's face it, Pee Wee wrote some really 'pretty melodies' but without Redd's lyrics they would have remained just that, 'pretty melodies.' Besides his absolutely beautiful voice and his way in writing lyrics, I remember him for his fiddle playing with the band, not guitar!
Of course his singing of songs written by others were absolutely super . . . songs like, 'Last Night on the Back Porch,' and 'The Chew Tobacco Rag' to 'The One Rose' and 'The Kentucky Waltz,' as far as I'm concerned are classics.
I spent 12 years (1191-2003) down in the Cayman Islands working for Radio Cayman 'on air' and in sales and while there I did an annual tribute to Pee Wee & Redd, such as I did on my Country Music Memories program here in Tampa. I wrote all this to say that I'm the ultimate Redd Stewart fan, and believe me, my wife will attest to that!' (Roy/Tampa, FL)
