Basic Guitar Study Course by Redd Stewart (Ambridge Records - 1986)
(Study Guide For Video Cassette Course - The home study for anyone who wants to learn to play the guitar, improve guitar skills, or learn music fundamentals) - This Video & Basic Guitar Course Is No Longer Available.
Hello, my name is Redd Stewart.
I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you and to congratulate you on your decision to learn to play the guitar. It has taken many months to prepare this video cassette and booklet. Each part has been carefully thought out and tested to make sure that you receive the most and we hope the best instruction possible as you study the guitar and learn the basics of music.
As for myself; I am a recording artist, stage performer, a vocalist as well as songwriter and guitar teacher. I have worked on shows with many of the top artists of today. I myself was a performer on the Grand Ole Opry, for many years, and I still make frequent appearances and recordings in Nashville, as well as making personal appearances around the country.
However, when the VCR came on the scene, I could not help but think that this was a great way for a person to learn to play the guitar in the privacy of his home. In the privacy of your own home, you will be able to concentrate better and by taking advantage of the many features on your VCR you will have a great advantage over the student who must rely on class lessons or a private teacher.
In a class or with a private teacher, time is often an important factor, and lessons are usually held to thirty minutes or less. With the VCR this is no problem. You can practice and study for as long as you like at the time you choose.
One word about Video instruction; it is designed to offer you the best in instruction in the basic study of the guitar and music, but please remember that most of the great musicians of today began to learn their trade at a very early age. I started around the age of six or seven. This CD cannot and is not intended to make you a professional musician. Only time, dedication and a certain amount of natural talent can accomplish t hat. However, if you use this CD and booklet as intended, you will acquire a basic knowledge of music and you will be able to play your guitar. Now, let's get started!
Redd Stewart Bio (by Pee Wee King)
Redd Stewart was born in Ashland City, Tennessee, but moved to Louisville, Kentucky as a small boy. All of his family was musical so it was natural for Redd to take up music, and by the time he was fourteen, he had already formed his own band. It was about this time that I met Redd, and he soon became a member of the Golden West Cowboys. He was a fiddle player, a vocalist, a bass player and guitarist with the band and for many years performed on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.
It was also about this time that Redd began his career as a songwriter, and along with his co-writers he has received many awards for songs like, Tennessee Waltz, Bonapartes Retreat, Slow Poke and You Belong to Me.
In 1970 he was elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is recognized as one of the top songwriters of today. Redd is also known as one of the finest guitar players in the business, and one of the things that Redd enjoys most is teaching guitar. His knowledge of the guitar and of music in general, makes him well qualified to be a teacher. Redd feels it is indeed a blessing to share his talents with others. Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame
