MEL
TILLIS Country
Music Legend "I met PeeWee and Redd years ago (1957). I was working fairs with
Minnie Pearl. We were arriving at a little county fair somewhere in Iowa as Red
& PeeWee were leaving. We stopped and got out and they did the same. Minnie
introduced me to them and PeeWee introduced us to some girl who was in their
show. She was 7 foot tall. PeeWee had two 50lb. sacks of potatoes (someone at
the fair had given him) on each front fender of his car. I'll never forget that.
We became real good friends over the years. I'd see both of them quite often at
the CMA and Disc Jockey Conventions. I loved their music as well as their
songwritng. Keep the Faith. Mel"
CHARLEY
GROTH "The
Music Man" "I'm Charley Groth, a lifelong professional musician who has sung
and played Redd Stewart compositions countless times over the years. I don't
happen to have any of his songs on my own CDs, but I've played them on sessions
for other people countless times too. Now I feel guilty not to have recorded
one! Tell you what, next CD, which I will be making with a great country band
in, of all places, Prague, Czech Republic, in July, I will include at least one
Redd Stewart song! I do have a story to share with you. One night **many** years
ago around Christmas time, I was driving through the town of Findlay, Ohio,
looking for an address. It was a dark and stormy night (really!), and I was
unable to find the address I sought. Finally I stopped in front of a small hotel
on the main street of the town, and went into the lobby to ask for directions.
From the lobby I could hear faint music coming from the lounge. It sounded like
an accordion was playing. You know the rest. I went in, sat down, and didn't get
up again until the place closed. What they were doing there in that little town
I don't remember. It seems to me now maybe they knew the hotel owner. I'll never
forget discovering Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King in that little Ohio town in the
middle of a long ago winter! Now I have told that story hundreds of times over
the years, but I never thought I would tell it to members of Redd Stewart's
family! Glad you have a web site up for Redd. Keep up the good work!"

DALE SOMMERS
(Truckin' Bozo) "The
Truck Driver's Radio Show" "Bill: & Sharon:
I received the copy of "I Remember" and I
have already copied a few of the cuts into my audio system for airplay on my new
show which starts Monday on XM-Satellite radio (Channel 171) from 4 till 7pm
Eastern Time... I met your father once in the sixties when he and Mel Foree
were calling on radio stations around the country and your dad gave me a
copy of "Dreaming Again" and I played that song every morning on my
daily radio show. I had it on a tape which eventually was destroyed by
mother nature and I had long since worn out the record. I thought that
the world would never be able to hear Dreaming Again, but I've got it and
a whole new generation of Country music lovers will get to know
Redd Stewart if I have anything to say about it.. Thanks again"
