Nashville, Tenn. — The Nashville Music Garden took root in the Hall of Fame Park, located at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Demonbreun, across from the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum, yesterday with the help of celebrity hosts Barbara Mandrell and Lynn Anderson as well as emcee Ralph Emery in an all-star ceremony befitting a garden created to recognize Music City’s best. Mayor Karl Dean was also on hand to cut the ribbon and officially open the garden that pays tribute to the artists, songwriters, authors, television personalities, industry leaders, venues, organizations and icons who have made a positive impact on Nashville’s entertainment community.
After the public dedication, Barbara Mandrell hosted a special luncheon for the honorees at the Sommet Center sponsored by the Nashville Predators Foundation. “It has been a very exciting day and I have never felt more love, camaraderie and joy over the beauty of what this event is all about. This garden and what it represents is beautiful. The city of Nashville is beautiful,” said Mandrell.
“To see over 40 country music artists in the same place at one time made for a truly amazing event that felt like a family reunion of country music,” said Pat Bullard of LifeWorks Foundation.
Other celebrities in attendance included Brenda Lee, Ray Walker of the Jordanaires, Manuel, Patti Page, Donna Fargo, Little Jimmy Dickens, Jeff Cook of Alabama, Irlene Mandrell, Bob Carlisle, Marty Raybon, Mandy Barnett, Gunnar Nelson, songwriters Jeffrey Steele, Shane Minor, Bart Allmand, Randy Thomas, Mac Gayden and Buzz Cason, and the families of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Patsy Cline, Minnie Pearl, Jimi Hendrix, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, songwriter Ben Peters, The Big Bopper, Merle Kilgore and DeFord Bailey.
The tribute garden is home to the Nashville Music Garden Collection, an assortment of over six dozen flowering plants whose names include Barbara Mandrell, Country Rock Pioneer Rick Nelson, Grand Ole Opry, Minnie Pearl, Pretty Woman, Purple Haze, Elvis, Ring of Fire, Tennessee Waltz, Alabama, Chantilly Lace, Dolly Parton, Kiss an Angel Good Morning, Hank Williams, Reba McEntire, Pam Tillis and Amy Grant, just to name a few.
The event is presented by LifeWorks Foundation in partnership with Metro Parks & Recreation and is sponsored by Hilton Nashville Downtown, Nashville Predators Foundation, BSA, Inc.
