Memories Of Redd
When
Sharon and I started work on this tribute site for my father, we
had no idea what type of response we would get. Well, we sure know
now! Wow! We had no idea how many lives he had touched. The response
we have gotten from his fans, friends, and fellow musicians, has
been overwhelming to say the least and very moving emotionally.
We have decided to devote an entire section to posting some of the
responses we have received. This way all who visit this
site will be sure to see the love and support all of you continue
to give Redd even after his passing. I am devoted to keeping his
legacy alive, and with your support we will do just that! We can't
thank you enough for all your fun-filled and classic stories! Thanks
for the memories...
Thank
You, Billy Stewart

Byron Barr "I used to watch Redd on Pee Wee King's TV show from Cleveland
and he had so much spirit and intensity as a singer. He was great on ballads but
also on the hot, upbeat things. I saw someone mention the King records he made.
Not only was Redd magic on those, so was the steel guitar player Bobby Koefer.
It sure would be great to see those old sounds available. As I hear it even some
of the young people like Western Swing music. Thank God for Redd!" Bill Finnegan "The first record I ever bought was "Slow Poke." I still have it.
I wish Redd and Pee Wee recorded "You Belong to Me" for RCA Victor back when the
Golden West Cowboys were at their peak. I remember them singing that song on Pee
Wee's Saturday night show over WBBM-TV in Chicago. Jo Stafford did a nice job,
but she was no Redd Stewart."
Billy Stewart "My
father was a master at keeping his professional life and his private
life separate. Growing up I just knew him as dad. Being a very
humble man, he never talked about his achievements. They
were not as important to him as family, and God. Building this
site has made me realize that his greatest achievement was
the many lives he has touched with his music! What a beautiful
gift
he has given us!"
Eddie Sauter "Redd Stewart was one of the great vocalists of his time with Pee
Wee and the Cowboys and on those fantastic solo records he made for King in the
early 1950s with Pee Wee and the guys backing him. Now that we have this great
site up it would be so great to get Redd's solo stuff available on CD. Thanks
again for the great website! Let's hope this is just the start."
